Summer of Smoothies: The Sheherazade

This week’s smoothie is all about pleasure. The Sheherazade is smooth, sensuous and sweet. The dates, macadamias, honey, and nutmeg seduce the senses, as they provide minerals, fiber, and healthy fats. The banana and vanilla almond milk continue the seduction, while they bring heart-protecting potassium and magnesium.

The Sheherazade is a luscious smoothie, ideal for a romantic treat. As a smoothie it’s a healthy (even vegan) stand-in for a milkshake – or leave out two of the ice cubes and serve it as dessert.

The Sheherazade:

1 frozen medium sized banana
1/3 cup roasted macadamia nuts
2 Medjool dates, pitted
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
4 standard ice cubes
1 tsp honey
pinch of ground nutmeg

* Place all ingredients in a blender.
* Blend on high until smooth, pulsing when necessary to liquify.
* Makes 2 6-oz servings.
* 300.4 calories, 17.9 g fat, 3.0 g protein per serving. Full nutritional information here.
