Summer of Smoothies: Stoned and Enthroned

We’re not advocating any illegal substances here – this indulgence is purely legal. But while indulging in all the fresh summer fruits, we get a little overwhelmed by the variety. So this week’s smoothie includes the little stone fruits – especially apricots and plums – and crowns them with the regal kick of ginger. Here in NYC we have yellow plums and sugar plums as well as the black and red ones, but you can mix up the varieties available to you.

The Stoned and Enthroned Smoothie is tangy and spicy – the ginger is quite pronounced – and very refreshing. Try it at an afternoon barbecue with friends, or as an after work chill-out.

Stoned And Enthroned Smoothie:

3 fresh apricots, pitted
4 Hiro (yellow) plums, pitted
3 Sugar plums, pitted
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
1 tsp honey
juice of 1/4 lemon
4 standard ice cubes

* Place all ingredients in a blender, pitting plums over the reservoir to include the juice.
* Blend on high until smooth, pulsing when necessary to liquify.
* Makes 2 10-oz servings.
